Does a student need to fill out FAFSA and qualify for federal financial aid in order to earn on RaiseMe?
RaiseMe's platform as a whole does not require students to fill out FAFSA or qualify for federal aid.
Some schools on RaiseMe require FAFSA, and when they do, you can assume that students will also need to qualify for need-based financial aid in order to be guaranteed the amount earned on RaiseMe.
However, many schools do not require FAFSA for RaiseMe dollars to be guaranteed.
How can I tell if a college on RaiseMe requires FAFSA?
To see whether FAFSA is required, a student needs to go to the college's page on our site and click "Requirements," then scroll down for "Eligibility Requirements." If FAFSA is required, it will be listed there - and, in some cases, it will include a deadline for when FAFSA needs to be submitted.
What is the FAFSA micro-scholarship?
Some college partners offer a micro-scholarship for students who fill out and submit their FAFSA form, whether or not they end up qualifying for aid. It is not required for a student to fill out FAFSA just because the college offers the micro-scholarship.
To enter your FAFSA info on RaiseMe to earn the FAFSA micro-scholarship, seniors can go to their Portfolio and scroll down to the College Readiness section! Click "add to Portfolio" and fill out the necessary information. *Please note, the 4-digit DRN code is optional.
