What is a Micro-Scholarship?
A micro-scholarship is an amount of money that students are eligible to earn based on individual achievements during college. They are awarded by 4-year colleges and universities who partner with RaiseMe, and each 4-year college creates their own micro-scholarship program or list of micro-scholarships they offer for different achievements. The amount a 4-year college awards you on RaiseMe represents the minimum amount of institutional aid that 4-year college will award you if you are accepted and enroll in their school.
4-year colleges decide what achievements they want to award and how much they will award to students who meet their eligibility requirements (which can be found on their College page). For example, one 4-year college might offer $50 for getting an A in a course, another might offer $100, and so on.
Does the scholarship money come from RaiseMe?
No - micro-scholarship dollars are awarded by the 4-year colleges that have partnered with RaiseMe. All eligibility requirements and deadlines must be met in order for any scholarship earnings to be awarded, and they are awarded in the financial aid package a student receives after being admitted as a transfer student.
How many micro-scholarships are earned with each achievement?
Each 4-year college can choose which achievements to award money for, and how much. For example, if you belong to Phi Theta Kappa, one 4-year college might award $200, another could award $500, and another, $50 - all for the same achievement.
Can I earn from multiple 4-year colleges at the same time?
Yes, you can earn from multiple schools at once by Following all the ones you're interested in. However, you'll only receive the scholarship funds you earn from a specific 4-year college if you are submitted, accepted, and attend that college as a transfer student.
What's the largest amount I can earn?
Each 4-year college sets a cap on the amount students are able to earn via RaiseMe. It could be $5,000 at one 4-year college, and $20,000 at another. Please keep in mind that we don't have the max amounts shown on the site, but every college has a maximum of how much can be earned on RaiseMe.
It varies for each school, and just because you've hit the maximum doesn't mean you won't potentially earn more from that college if you are accepted! It just means that that college is only willing to guarantee a certain amount ahead of time. Once you are accepted, the college will award you at least that amount, and can always add more if they see fit.
If I earn micro-scholarships, can I still earn additional financial aid from that college?
Of course! RaiseMe automatically submits your Portfolio to 4-year colleges you're Following on their earning deadlines for your planned transfer term, assuming your profile is complete (See: Eligibility Requirements).
The amount earned via RaiseMe represents the minimum amount of institutional aid that the college will award you if you are accepted and enroll in their school. However, the college can always decide to award you more scholarships based on merit or need once they see your application for admission.
If I meet all the requirements, when/how will I receive the micro-scholarship dollars?
